Transparent PNG vs JPG for cutouts
Why cutouts need PNG (or WebP with alpha) — and when JPG is the wrong export format.
JPG cannot store transparency. If you export a cutout as JPG, the “removed” background becomes a flat color (usually white or black) and you lose the ability to composite freely.
PNG supports an alpha channel, so soft hair edges and anti-aliased silhouettes stay usable on any backdrop. That is why Filvo downloads background-removed images as PNG.
WebP with alpha is a smaller modern alternative, but PNG remains the safest default for design tools, print prep, and marketplaces that expect classic transparent files.
After export, you can still convert or compress the PNG for the web — just keep an uncompressed master if you will edit the cutout again later.
